Psychotherapy

Sydney Dowdy, MA, a rostered psychotherapist and recovery coach, has worked with adult individuals and groups. Following an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina, she earned a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy at Appalachian State University. An internship at Cooper Riis, an Asheville, North Carolina inpatient program, led to work coaching groups of residents suffering from various personality disorders, major depressive disorders, and generalized anxiety disorders. Dowdy embraces Community Health’s holistic approach to healthcare and primary care “looking at the whole person.” At Community Health she hopes to expand her work to include families, couples, individuals, and children.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Dowdy is new to the Northeast where she looks forward to the four seasons, hiking, reading, watching movies, and enjoying time with her rescue pit bull.

Philosophy of Care

I take a client-centered approach, believing that the people I work with are the experts of their own life experiences. I am there to be with them, support them during difficult times, help them process events and experiences and challenge them if needed. I am a firm believer in a holistic approach to healthcare and that each person is the expert of their own life.
