Sonali A. Herath, MS, MHS, PA-C, is a physician assistant at Community Health Rutland where she enthusiastically supports Community Health’s model of patient care, healthcare management, and nonprofit community service mission. A primary care and gastroenterology physician assistant in private and nonprofit practices in Vermont, New York, and New Jersey, Herath coordinated clinical research for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Vermont and authored publications on colorectal cancer research.

An animal rescue advocate, Herath shares her home with Hope, a mixed lab rescue. She enjoys the beauty of Vermont, being outdoors, running, hiking, and cooking.

Philosophy of Care
I am really passionate about walking my patients through their healthcare and making sure I am there for them for every step of their life. The patient-provider relationship is a compromise; I’m always learning from my patients and believe in meeting them halfway. I approach everything with kindness and explain things to patients in ways that make sense to them. I take a scientific approach to medicine – the numbers and data are really important – but, I also find a way to communicate with the patient to make sure they are just as invested as I am in their health goals.
