Laura Ferguson, MEd
Behavioral Health | Psychotherapy
Laura Ferguson, MEd, is a rostered psychotherapist at Community Health, working with children ages 5 through teens.
With a lifelong passion for working with children and their families, Ferguson earned a master’s degree in education and school counseling from Goddard College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and secondary education from Castleton University. As an elementary school teacher in northern Vermont, she recognized that children needed more than classroom support and focused her continued education on social work and clinical aspects of behavioral health. Ferguson uses art therapy techniques to create a safe and comfortable space for children to uncover their interests and concerns.
She has counseled students as a school-based clinician at Castleton Elementary School and with Rutland Mental Health where she has enjoyed partnerships with Community Health providers and community organizations.
A Vermont native, Ferguson enjoys the outdoors, gardening, swimming, and going for walks and during the winter, she paints and creates mosaic flower pots.
Philosophy of Care
I take pride in building a foundation with my patients and creating a relationship where they feel safe and comfortable. I believe in being flexible and relating to them on their terms, helping them understand that as humans it’s normal to have strong feelings and that we’ll work together to understand those feelings as they heal.
