Michael Gardner Named Community Health CEO

Michael “Mike” Gardner has been named chief executive officer of Community Health, Vermont’s largest federally qualified health center (FQHC) headquartered in Rutland. Gardner has been with Community Health since its formation in 2004 and has served as the organization’s chief financial officer, interim CEO and treasurer of the board of directors. Gardner has been a key influence in the organization’s growth, providing the financial strategy and foundation for Community Health’s continuous operations during the pandemic.

“I am very pleased to announce that the Community Health Board of Directors has appointed Michael Gardner as the permanent CEO effective immediately,” said Community Health Board of Directors Chair Bob Riley. “Mike has been serving as the interim CEO during the past six months and has done an outstanding job. Mike has been in a leadership position at Community Health since 2004 and has been very instrumental to its growth and development.”

Gardner’s business acumen and financial knowhow allowed Community Health to maintain employment of its full workforce over the past two years as the organization adapted to the demands of Covid-19. Under Gardner’s guidance, the organization was able to expand dental, telehealth and behavioral health services while providing the security and safety protocols and gear needed for the Community Health staff and the community.

“I’ve been with Community Health since 2004 and have seen the organization change and grow over that time,” Gardner said. “I’m very pleased that the board has confidence in my leadership to name me officially the CEO.”

Community Health is Vermont’s largest FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center), a network of primary care, pediatric, behavioral health, dental and pharmacy services with offices in Rutland, Brandon, Castleton, West Pawlet and Shoreham.
